Are you a cereal person? I love it. Growing up, cereal and oatmeal were essentials at our house ("Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, Natalie." Ahem.) I never got the sugary good stuff, though. Mom and Dad were not about to let that happen. Sugar and I were (are) a crazy combo. I had dreams about Lucky the Leprechaun and his marshmallow goodness.
Now that I'm grown, I recognize the logic and don't buy anything "magically delicious." There are too many artificial ingredients and I just can't justify them as foods worth having around. Enter Three Sisters Cereal- sold exclusively at Whole Foods- a company providing sweet morning treats with a conscience.
Three Sisters has taken all of our favorite sweet cereals- like Lucky Things and Cinnamon Toast Stuff- and made whole grain, all-natural versions. Is that not the coolest thing ever? They also have a neat little line of oatmeal. And they power their business with wind energy. So stinkin' cool.
Now, don't get me wrong, these cereals are still sweet. You can't substitute these for bran flakes and expect weight-loss miracles. But, if you're looking for something sweet in your cereal bowl anyway, you should ditch the fake ingredients and HFCS and try Three Sisters.
I was going to try some fun recipes with the cereal, really- I had the best intentions. Unfortunately, I ate it all and have no recipes to show for it. But I can tell you it's delicious. And I can do you one better- free cereal for a month.
That's right pals. Four bags of Three Sisters cereal coming your way. Easy peasy ways to enter:

The cereals and oatmeal were so good. I loved the Dark Chocolate Oatmeal- it's great with a banana or as a little snack in the evening. Loved it all. Thanks, Three Sisters, for giving me a taste. Here's hoping you'll get a taste, too!
I ate cerel EVERY morning for breakfast! My mom was not much of a cook. Fruity pebbles were my favorite!! Today, my three girls eat cereal, but not as much as when I was a kid, maybe that's because I get them the healthy stuff, they always try to ask for the chocolate kind at the store though :) No luck!

ReplyDeleteI loved my Cheerio-shaped Tupperware to carry my Cheerios in! I wish I still had it for when I want to take snacks on-the-go!
ReplyDeleteI loved Cream of Wheat as a kid. I would add a tablespoon of strawberry jam to it. Yum.
ReplyDeleteIt's bad for me, but I truly, truly love Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It was a special treat as a child, but when I got to college it was breakfast, lunch and dinner. I still love it, but never buy it now that I'm a functioning adult.
ReplyDeleteI love cinnamon toast crunch! It was a treat as a child, and now that I'm older I don't eat it as much as I'd like.
ReplyDeleteI also loved Lucky Charms, but rarely got that treat! And I always ate cereal dry. Didn't want it getting soggy!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little I never ate Golden Grahams, except when I would sleep over at Nana & Pop-pop's house. I would wake up on Sunday morning, eat Golden Grahams, choked down some pulp-filled orange juice (love the pulp now though!) and off we went to Church! Whenever I see Golden Grahams in the store I don't buy them, but I instantly remember how they taste and see myself at Nana & Pop-pop's on Sunday morning!!!

I will always remember sitting down with my three brothers and my Dad on sunday mornings and all of us having Corn Pops. These rest of the week we weren't allowed to eat "Dad's" cereal. With three boys in the house some restrictions were needed or else no food would be left. Keeping in mind we use salad bowls (family sized) for our cereal in the morning all the time. Love your blog the Tequila Lime Flank is everyones fav!! Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI grew up liking my cereal soggy. I think it came after spending a week with my gram and she had "cap n crunch" and it removed all of the skin off the roof of my mouth. I on the rare occasion enjoy a soggy bowl of cereal

ReplyDeletefavorite breakfast cereal story...cereal was a big thing in our house--my father had his own bowl for his cereal which he ate every morning. I'm not sure whatever happened to that bowl, but I purchased one at a thrift shop not too long ago, that reminded me of 'his bowl' great memories! But, typically, cereal wasn't just for breakfast, it was a special treat at night in our house. I do not live near a whole foods, but am going to check them out online and like them on facebook. I just added you on Facebook recently-its a great way to keep up with your blog. Thanks!
